Dean Boles Meet Summary

ROW Communications

The Dean Boles meet, hosted by ROW and named after the previous Head Coach and current CEO of Swim Ontario, was a unique event that included sessions for all age groups. This allowed younger swimmers (12&U) to interact and race alongside the older athletes (13&O), which is not typical for most meets. The competition took place over the weekend with two Long Course Meter (LCM) sessions on Saturday and two Short Course Meter (SCM) sessions on Sunday, featuring the same events. This format provided plenty of opportunities for racing, allowing athletes to work towards their personal goals, such as achieving new qualification times. It also served as the last chance for swimmers to qualify for the Ontario Age Group Championships (OAGs) and WOSA.

For many athletes, especially the older swimmers, the meet served as a training opportunity. They were able to focus on refining their skills and technique in a competitive racing environment. Swimmers performed at race intensities, often sacrificing some time or placing in order to focus on specific aspects of their technique. The meet's format allowed athletes to approach their races with a clear objective, whether that was to secure qualification times for upcoming competitions or to add new skills to their racing toolkits.

The meet also saw some impressive performances, with several swimmers setting new club records. Beckett S set a club record in the 50 Breast SCM for 13/14 Boys, and Stella N set a club record in the 50 Fly SCM for 11/12 Girls. In addition to the records, there were new qualifiers for both OAGs and WOSA. Abigail F, Benton M, and Sky Q earned their spots for OAGs, while Vlad B qualified for WOSA, marking significant achievements for these athletes.
